Occupy SOIL! Protest for Abortion Rights and LGBT Equality

Speak Out Illinois (SOIL), an annual conference of right-wing,
anti-abortion, anti-LGBT activists and politicians will be held on
Saturday, January 28th in Oak Brook, IL.
Sponsored by over 30 organizations dedicated to spreading misinformation/bigoted messages and organizing to take away our rights, SOIL represents and helps promote a political and social agenda that is poisonous for women’s rights, LGBT equality, and other issues necessary for the 99%, like social services.
The newly formed Gender Equality Committee is planning to help coordinate a counter-protest (Occupy SOIL) to bring together members of OccChi, abortion rights organizations, women of color, LGBT communities, healthcare justice, and other forces interested in countering SOIL’s anti-woman, anti-LGBT message.
The General Assembly of Occupy Chicago has unanimously endorsed this action, helping to make connections between OccChi and these communities, and advance the movement toward linking issues of gender equality to economic justice that is central to Occupy.
We will be meeting up at 7:30 am for the carpool at UIC in front of the Daley library on Morgan street. (601 S. Morgan St). PLEASE message the group directly if you can volunteer rides or if you need a ride! We will leave the carpool site by 8am, to start our rally at 8:30 (as the SOIL conference is getting started).
We will rally, picket, and feature speakers from sponsoring groups and organizations until noon.
Sponsoring Organizations include:
Chicago Abortion Fund
OccupyChicago
VitaSida
International Socialist Organization
Illinois Choice Action Team
Revolutionary Communist Party
Carpool leaves from Chicago at 601 S Morgan St at 8am. Please meet there at 730am, and notify us if you will be driving/can offer car space or if you need a ride by Thursday.
