POLICE TORTURE BURGE CONVICTED NOW WHAT?
The Campaign to End the Death Penalty is hosting an interactive forum:
Former Commander Jon Burge was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice —he will be sentenced (unless their is a continuance) on Nov 5th.
Will he get prison time? If so, how long?
22 known Burge torture victims remain in prison, will they get new hearings?
Will the police pension board vote to stop Burge’s pension or not?
What about the other cops that tortured, will they be indicted?
Why isn’t Mayor Daley or States Attorney Annita Alvarez speaking up for the torture victims?
The long struggle to win justice for police torture victims reached a milestone when Burge was found guilty.
But the struggle is far from over. Come to an interactive roundtable forum featuring former police torture victims, family members, activists and lawyers as we take stock of what our movement has accomplished and what still needs to be done to win justice.
Roundtable panelists include: (speakers confirmed unless noted otherwise)
Mark Clements, police torture victim who spent 28 years in prison
Marvin Reeves, police torture victim who spent 21 years in prison
Ronnie Kitchen, police torture victim who spent 21 years in prison (pending confirmation)
A call in from a Burge torture victim from IL prison
Curtistine Deloney, mother of incarcerated torture victim Javan Deloney
Joey Mogul, an attorney with the People’s law office and activist
Tomika Erby, an activist with the Jail Jon Burge Committee
(The panel will be moderated by Marlene Martin from the Campaign to End the Death Penalty)
There will be time for audience comments and interaction with the panelists.
Come and learn about this struggle from those who have fought long and hard for it, and to see how you can get involved.
All are welcome!
